Cray Cray at Christmas?

Almost every time that I go to my Mom's house there are mounds of cookies and yummy stuff that she bakes and makes.  She does it because it makes her feel good to feed people (especially her kids and grandkids).   I worked with a delightful woman that would bring little candies to work every day.   She would fill up a pretty bowl and leave them for other people to eat....she loved having people eat her candies, it made her feel generous.   I remember every Christmas from age 4 until 11- stacks of gifts under the tree, sometimes reaching the ceiling.  I would wake up with crazy tickles in my tummy...sneaking up to see what Santa brought.  I loved it, and our parents loved it too- it made them feel like they were the best parents in the world- generous and kind.

My point here is that everything we do and buy is motivated by how we ultimately want to feel.

Powerful, kind, healthy, fit, energetic, connected, successful, generous, popular, balanced, needed, influential, loved, calm, important, significant, smart, and happy, are some of the feelings we try to achieve.

Listen carefully, the trick is not to do more, buy more, eat more, and drink more...the trick is to figure out how to embody these feelings without external validation.  I have learned this method through years of hard work- and it works every single time.

1.  Take 3 minutes and get yourself grounded.  If you aren't sure how to do this click here for a quick reference.

2. Ask the question:  Is this action (eating the extra piece of Christmas cake, drinking the extra glass of wine, or buying that $200 pair of jeans) really going to help me achieve my desired feelings of _______________. (joy, happy, success, etc.)

If the answer is YES- that's easy.  If the answer is NO- then ask yourself:

3. What else could I be doing to create that feeling of _________________.

Follow that answer.

At the end of this little practise, you will have made a conscious decision no matter if your answer was YES or NO.  Conscious decisions are empowering.  Give it a try and let me know how it goes in the comments section below.

Drop the crazy this holiday season.  Pick up some serenity.

Many blessings,

Diana
