Can Girls Really Change the World?

I recently had the opportunity to work with Tracy Thibodeau’s Girls Change the World Workshop.   This is a workshop that helps moms and daughters communicate better.  Tracy had about 10 mother/daughter pairs sitting in plastic chairs at the University of Regina for a period of about 5 hours.  I know- it sounds less than thrilling but stay with me….

I didn’t bring my daughter because she is way too young.

However, I did bring my pen and my paper with the hopes of learning something new from this heartfelt and well educated woman.

5 hours later, my notebook was full.  Here are a few points that really hit home for me:

  •       Our daughters have fears and so do we.  Our fears – often times are similar.
  •      We all want to feel successful, loved, and like we belong.
  •      There are ways we can speak to one another that will bring us closer together, cultivate          our relationship, and allow us all to get exactly what we need.
  •      If we STOP our argument before it escalates we can make progress more quickly.
  •      Crying is good.  Really good.

The list goes on and on and if you want some of what I got I would strongly suggest you sign up for Tracy’s next Workshop.

Now- here is the thing I found most moving.

These moms love their daughters.  OMG.  Do they ever.

I am a mom and I know we all love our kids.  We carried these little gaffers inside of us for 9 months and gave birth to them and of course we love our daughters.  I am telling you- it isn’t just that.

There was so much love in that room

Whole hearted, unconditional, unwavering love.  These incredible Moms want to communicate better, to understand, to find a language they can share with their daughter.  They want to smother these girls with their love and knowledge and happiness.  They want to learn and to grow.

I am so blessed to learn what I learned and to be a witness to the beautiful love that permeated the Universe that day.

It made me want to be a better mom.  To be a mom like the moms in that room.  These are the girls that are changing the world.
